By Telegraph.—Press Assertion. Invercargill, Last Night. The first day of the Riverton Racing Club's annual meeting was held to-day. The sum of £14,644 was put through the totalisator. Results:— TRIAL STAKES, one mile—Canrobur 1, Master Jim 2, Kim 3. Won by twelve lengths. Time, lmin 48 l-ssec. OTAITAI STEEPLECHASE, about two miles—The Jew 1, Ghent 2, Ironsand 3. Won by a length. Time, 4min 50sec.
FIRST COUNTY HANDICAP, seven furlongs—Buller 1. Girlda 2, Peerless 3. A close finish. Time, lmin 3osec. RIVERTON CUP, one and a-half miles—Hcsione 1, Wild Pilgrim 2, Directoire 3. Won easily. Time, 2min 45 sec.
POURAKINO STAKES, open handicap, for three-vear-olds, one mile—Redowa 1, Varanian 2, Iloribeam 3. Won comfortably by two lengths.
GREAT WESTERN STEEPLECHASE, about three miles—Golden Grape 1, Tommy 2, The Gunner 3. The race was a chapter of accidents, every horse in the race meeting with some mishap or other. Golden Grape was the only horse to cover the course without unseating his rider, and he baulked at one jump. Won easily. Time, 7min 37 3-ssec.
FLYING HANDICAP, six furlongs— Golden King 1, iPeter 2, Soldier's Chorus 3. Won by two and a-half lengths, the third horse half a length away. Time Imin 18 4-ssec. '
WALLACE HACK HANDICAP, one mile—Neuroma 1, Master Jim 2, Floraline 3. Won easily by two lengths. Time, lmin 48 3-ssec.
