The semi-finals of the championship will be played this morning, ami the finals will take place in the afternoon, and these matches, with several handicap events, will conclude the tournament to-day. '1 he weather yesterday was fine, broken by showers, but the rain did litlte more than discomfort players, for tliu course played well throughout the iuiy. j Chief interest, in the play centred on; tiie second and third rounds of tin;' championship, which were pla\|eu in tin;] morning and afternoon respectively. | Sixteen players qualified on Saturday for the championship, and thev were I drawn for match play in the "second I round. F. J. Ritchie, who returned the I best score on Saturday, met F. Robb I and won b.v 2 up and one to play, after I a well-contested match. G. Sim. the' other top man on Saturday, did not make any further advance in the cliam- ' pionship, being'beaten by W. O. Weston. I A particularly interesting match was that between A. Bewley and W. B. I Glasgow, the latter eventually winning ■ at the 19th hole. At the turn Glasgow was "2 up, but ißewley evened matters up until, playing the sixteenth hole, Bewley had a lead of 1 up. Bewleyi then offered Glasgow a task by placing his drive to the sixteenth oil the green.' Glasgow halved his hole, ami eventually' they were all square at the eighteenth. Glasgow won the nineteenth with a 5 to Bewiev's 0. Of the other local men, M. G. Chong went out to F. S. Partes, S.I J. Smith was beaten bv A. E. Ekstedt, and E. S. Bayly defeated W. P. Nicoli. In' the third round in the afternoon the two remaining New Plymouth players— W. C. Weston and E. S. Bayley—were put out, the players left ill for tile semifinals being F. J. Ritchie, W. O'Callaghan, E. Hickson, and A. E. Ekstedt. All these four players are playing good golf at present, and both the semi-finals and tiie final should provide interesting matches.

Players not concerned in tiie championship were provided witli an interesting iliy's golf. In the morning a boge\ match for men was played, and resulted in a tie between J. S. Paton and G. W. Ryan, while a medal handicap for men in the afternoon produced another tie, W. L. Fitzlierbert and 11. S. Elliott b»ing equal. The first ladies' match of the tournament —a bogey handicap—was also decided. Miss Stephenson was the winner, and Miss Bewley and Miss Blunduil tied for second place. Continuous putting was held throughout the day. W. Seifert returned tiie best card, and Mrs. McLean gained second place.

To-day events lor men will be played in the morning and afternoon, play commencing at 9 a.m. sharp, and a 'ladies' match will be played at 11 a.m. The championship should be productive o7 some good golf, and any pair from the four men to play in the icmi-fihals in the morning should provide a keen contest in the final in the afternoon. Given a fine day there should bo a large gathering to witness the final, at the conclusion of which -the prizes will In presented, and "finis" will be appended to the tournament of 1915 —a gathering which has been particularly successful in every respect.
