STRATFORD GYMKHANA.
RECORD ENTRIES.
Record entries have been received by the Stratford A. and P. Association for their gymkhana on Easter Monday. To think that thirty years ago Stratford as a town was non-existent, the place where the County Hotel now stands was a swamp, Broadway was only a mere trail that rose up and hit the wayfarer a 3 he wandered on his way. Residents could obtain the recreation they wanted by chasing the wild pig, and shooting the wild pigeon. Horses and bullocks were the only means of locomotion no tripping about in motor cars or on motor fakes was possible. All these things have now changed. Broadway, level and -of smoothness dear to the heart of the motorist, is lined with shops and offices and residences now extend for miles' and miles. The people are happy and contented That look of contentment is undoubtedly planted, there by the action of the Stratford A. ami P Association, in instituting their annual irvmKHana on Easter Monday,' that would offer the people of Taranaki a chance to see the finest trotting races and jumping events, not forgetting the baby show, that it is possible to fill in a day's programme. The music provided for this fixture is well worth the price of admission alon'c; a specially trained or- . chestra. of 20 performers, playing all the latest music, has 'been engaged. Special excursion fares and delayed traim arc already advertised, and -the management has asked us to point out that accommodation can be provided for 20,000 people, and, if that is taxed, will still further improve on it.. With such: a fine programme we expect to see a record attendance.
