TARANAKI LAND BOARD.
MONTHLY MEETING.
The usual monthly meeting of the Taranaki Land Board was hold on Wedn: sdny. Those present were: Messrs G. H. Billiard (Commissioner of Crown Lands), \. Coxhead, C. J. Ryan, and Jones.
APPLICATIONS FOR LAND. The following applications for land were dealt with:—
Section 7, block 12, Tangitu S.D., M2 acres, 0.R.P., Norman Francis Le Variant.—Approved. Sections 20, 30, Whangamomona township, 2 roods, cash, (Rev.) Michael O'Beirne, for Roman Catholic Church Trustees.—-Recommended at £4O, purchase price.
Part Mapiu township reserve, 1 rood, yearly tenancy, E. IT. Kenny.—Granted at 10s per annum, subject to usual conditions.
Section 21, block 2, Piopiotea west S.D., 6 acres; year to year tenancy, Lawrence o'Donnell.-*-Rcfused, land to be opened.
Part section 4, block 7, Pouatu S.D, 25 acres (approx.) cash, W. A. Cleaver. —Recommended after provisions of the Act have been complied with. Part of railway reserve fronting section 14, block 6, Pouatu S.D., L. Kennedy.—Refused.
Section 29, block 5, Ngatimaru S.D., 7 acres 2 roods; yearly tenancy, D. M. Pitcaithly.—Approved at £1 per annum, subject to usual conditions.
Part section 1, blocs 12, Totoro ST)., 86 acres (approx.) cash, F. Hurley.— Adjourned.
Sub-divisions 4, 5, 7, 9, 13, of section 45 (Waihi reserve) block 5, Hawera S.D., 31 acres, 1 rood, 37 perches, Vincent Riddle.—Resolved to recommend sale to Mr Riddle of lots 4 and 13, at valuation, under section 129 of Act, and to offer lots 5, 7, and 9 at public auction at valuation.

SELECTORS IN DEFAULT. The following selectors were requested to show cause/or default:— O.R.P. section 5, block 4, Opaku S.D, R. and R. C. Parker, non -residence.—Six months' extension of time granted to comply. O.R.P. section 0, Mock 5, Totoro 5.1)., L. Weeks, non-improvement and ■ residence.— Twelve months' extension of time granted to comply. I.F.S. section 2, Mock 13, Ohura S.D., D. McKonzje, non-residence. Six months' extension of time granted in which to build and reside.
O.R.P. section 4, block 13, Upper Wai tara Survey District, A. Johnson, m>. provements and residence.—Forfeited.
MISCELLANEOUS,
F. A. Hooker, transferee of sections 36 and 44, Spotswood, was required to reside from date of transfer on 6th May, 1914. Three requests have been made as to his intentions, but no reply has been received.—Deferred for ranger to report.
Ranger Tolme forwarded his resumption report on section !), block 7, Mapara Survey District.—Resolved to open under renewable lease at 55s per acre capital value.
The Receiver of Land Revenue reported that Ada Hodgson, lessee of section H block 4, Paritutu S.D., had paid the amount required for freehold.— Resolved to certify that lessee is entitled to a Crown grant under section 30, Laud Laws Amendment Act. J. H. Ryan,' licensee of section 1, block 4, Piopiotea west S.D., applied..to have the holding forfeited, and requested that he be not debarred from competing it future ballots.—Forfeited, the question of admission to future ballots to stand over.
EXPENDITURE OF THIRDS. The following proposals for expenditure of thirds were submitted for approval:— Wliangamomona County Council, £212 15s fid : Ohura County Cornell, £1467 7s 3d.—Approved, subject to satisfactory reports from ranger. Nellie Brosnan, lessee of section 70 Spotswood, applied for leave of absence for six months on tin. grounds of ill-j health. Application supported bv doc-j tor's certificate—Apruved. Govett and Quilliam, borough solid-' tors, applied for permission for the New Plymouth Borough Council to erect an electric transmission line across section 158, Huii and Waiwakaiho district - Approved. W. TT. Partridge, lessee of section 6 block 16, Upper Waitara S.D., 570 acr.-s' applied for remission of rent for four years.—Refused.
The proposal to oflVf sale by auction section 2, block 3, Tangitu S.D., contaming 10 acres, 3 roods, 5 perches' wa'-. deferred.
J he Receiver of Land Revenue submitted supplementary schedule of .Education .Reserve lessees in arrcar with one and two payments of rent which he has failed to collect after having sent out two demand notices.—Resolved that failing payment before 28th April steps be taken for recovery or forfeiture of holdings.
Crown Lands ranger Tolmo reported on twenty O.R.P. and renewable lease holdings, comprising 5447 acres: Improvements required, £2301; improvements effected, £405!). One defaulter for residence and improvement.—Received.
Crown Lauds ranger Meredith reported on three O.R.R. and renewable lease holdings comprising 1152 aires:—lmprovements required £044; improvements effected, C 2107. One defaulter for residence .—Received.
Crown Lands ranger Tolme submitted valuations of the following areas surveyed by District Surveyor Keiisiiig'.on
for settlement purposes:—Section 1, block 2, Rangi district, area 318 acres, 60s; section 2, block 2, Rangi district, area 72 acres, 555; section 3, block 2, Rangi district, .area 87 acres, 50s.— Approved at the valuations stated, iinl land to be opened under part 3 of Land Act.
Six applications for consent to wort-, gage were considered in committee and approved. A deputation of settlers in the Taranaki scholarship block, Carlisle S.D., waited upon the Board with regard to the conditions of their leases under right of renewal, under the Publi c Bodies Leases Act, 1908. Tf,e Board decided to defer consideration until they inspected the holdings on April 13th. The arbitrators appointed to consider fresh rentals for the renewal of certain Education Board leases submitted their awards, which were received. The Board decided to notify the lessees concerned accordingly.
RABBITS. It was resolved that the Board views with alarm the action of a Crown tenant in the Wliangamomona district, in keeping a large number of caged rabbits, and suggest that in view of the great danger of these escaping and infesting the district, which is at present Crown Lands, the Rabbit Nuisances Act should be amended to provide against such a danger.
