TRAVELLING EXPENSES.

THE NEW SCALE. At the Education Board's meeting on Wednesday last, the £•'. tretary of Education (Sir E. O. Gibbes) submitted draft regulations in reference, to travelling expenses, and asked for remarks thereon. The circular nor,ed that the Act allowed no more than re-imlnirsenient of expenses reasonably incurred, and staled tlia the travelling expenses which might be held to be reasonably incurred by a member of a board in connection with the duties defined by section 31 of the Act were as follows:—(a) Fares by public conveyance by the most direct route, (b) The expenses attaching to a member's use, of his own horse or vehicle at a rate not exceeding fid a mile, reckoned one wayl only, (c) Tin; cost of special conveyance' required for making an official vnit where in the opinion of the Board a public conveyance is not available or not efficient, (d) Living expenses at a rate not exceeding 3s for caeli period of six hours or part of six hours during which the member is necessarily absent frmi his home while engaged on the busincs of the Board.
