THE THUUSDAY COMPETITION.

PHOENIX t. NHW PLYMOUTH HIGH SCHOOL.

The Thursday competition was •■ ' vr.nced another stage yesterday, v. .-. Phoenix and High School met on „::e hitter's ground. The match, winch is unfinished, is left in an interesting positio. High School batting first lost two wickets very cheaply, but fine innings by Monteath (17), fykes (28), Yales (28) and Alexander (10) carried tlie score to IKS before the last wicket L'il. Monteath hit a- six oil Robertson. Gwillim was the most successful bowler. Phoenix opened badly, Robertson falling first ball to Monteath. Richards (34) and Gwillim (13) carried the score to 41 before the latter was caught out. Seven wickets were down for 68, »r.d High School looked like scoring their first win, when Vale (10) and Shcphenl (not out 21) became associated and added 33 for the next wicket. Stumps were then drawn, with Phoenix 15 runs in arrears and two wickets to fall. Detailed scores:—
