CARRINGTON SCHOOL CONCERT.
SUCCESSFUL GAT! IERI Xti,
(From Our Own Correspondent.) For our school concert, .which was held in aid of the Belgian Relief Fund the weather was all that could be desired, and a very large crowd (the largest that lias ever appeared here) gathered at the Carrington schoolroom Among the audience 1 noticed quite a number from Vogeltown and Fraiiklei«h Road. n
I'iic physical exercises and illuminated drill, etc., were thoroughly prepared by the children, under the careful supervision of the master (.Mr. Edgar 'turner), Hiss Kathleen Brydcn acting as pianist.
Before commencing the programme Mr. A, Beauchamp spoke of the work of the school generally, and then gave eacli child a gift book, special prizes were- awarded to the following:— Dux of the Sixth Standard, Arthur Eider; dux of the. fiftli Standard, Olga Beauchamp; proficiency, A. Jiider, silver medal suitably engraved, donated hy Mr. Turner. Prizes were aso presented to the following: For five years' full attendance, A. Rider; popular girl, Edith Taylor; L .yav on the process of making cheese, Edith Taylor 1, dames Smith 2, Verner Peppcrell .'J; sewintr, Espernnee Gilbert 1, Winnie Taylor 2, Olga Beauchamp first for neatnes's. The concert included pianoforte solos by Master Revell and Miss Esperance Gilbert; recitations, Edith Taylor "The Owl Critic," Mr. Grooty "A Scrap of Paper"; song, "Summer Time," .Miss May Gilbert, a tiny mite of four vpars; j patriotic songs, Miss I. Gilbert. Messrs I Asher and Eva. The wand drill, dumb- ] bell exercises, and illuminated drill ]n-r-1 formed by the children was excellent, the little ones keeping almost perfect time. In the Maypole dance by the little girls Irene Turner made " very pretty queen. "Th e Empire is Calling" was sung by Miss Ivy Gilbert, the chorus being followed by the March of the Nations.
In the waxworks -Messrs Lovell and C. Gilbert caused much merriment Mr. Turner acted as showman. Th c figures represented were: Britannia, Miss G. Rawlinson; Joan of Arc, Miss J). Beauc'iamp; Little Jap, Miss J). Leighton; Captain Kidd's .Victim, Miss A. Cole; Grace Darling. Miss I. Rawlinson; Red Riding Hood, Miss 0. Bcauchamp; Cinderella, .Miss C. Bryden; Mrs. S. A. Winslow. L. Okoy: The Prince/V. Pep-
perell: Captain Kidd, H. Shaw; Yankee, J. Shaw; Chinese Giant, W. Washer; Cannibal, R. Gilbert: Scarecrow, F. Yeatcs; Robin'on Crusoe. H. Groobv: Man Friday, C. Petch. Immediately following the introduction of Britannia the audience ros,. and sang "Rule Britannia." Mr. Turner next gave an exhibition of illuminated club swinging-, and the programme was brought to a close by the senior hoys springing into a pyramid and displaying the Allies' flags, while the building rang with fie National Anthem.
