PREPARING FOR BATTLE, '-Jc"' ACCOMMODATION POR WOUNDED SOUGHT. ACUTE TENSION WITH AUSTRIA. PROSPECTS OF SETTLEMENT SLIGHT. Received March 21, 6.55 p.m. London, March 20. Dr. Dillon reports from Rome tbat the Minister of Education is ascertaining tlie military status of all professors, tcatfiers and educational emritovees in Italy, and also what 'beds the schools and colleges are capable of containing. It is stated that several German and Austrian consuls are removing their archives. Austria is hastily strengthening tlie defences of Trentino, and employing Russian prisoners and Galician refugees to remove snow from the highlands. Much artillery and ammunition is proceeding to the mountain forts, and new batteries are being erected. Austria appears to be willing to cede Trentino and territory to fie river Isonzo, but refuses to guarantee political and economic treatment of Italian nationals elsewhere. Italy persists in its immediate cession, but Austria favors postponing the matter till after the ■war. The prospects of settlement are j slight. .ii.'kfr-'tf
GERMAN MACHINATIONS. ATTEMPT TO WRECK A RAILWAY. Received March 21, 5.55 p.m. Paris, March 20. German agents, disguised a3 workmen, were arrested in Italy endeavoring to blow up a railway tunnel near Genoa, in order to hinder mobilisation.
