THE MEAT MARKET. The New Zealand Loan and' Mercantile Agency Company. Limited, have received the following cablegram from their London house, under date March 17.—Tallow: We quote present spot values for the following descriptions—Prime mutton 41s 3d per cwt, good beef 40s 3d per cwt, mixed 37s Gd per cwt. The market is dull, with downward tendency. WESTFIELD. At Westfteld yards on Wednesday fat j cattle came forward in full numbers, and prices were a shade lower than I last week, owing to the freezing buyers not being able to operate. Best oxen sold to 39s Gd per 1001b, otberg 37s to 38s; cows and heifers 30s to 355. Steers sold at from £!) to £l7 ss, cows and heifers £4 to £lO 10s. Calves were penned in good numbers and sold at late rates. Heavy vcalers £4 to £4 15s, medium £3 to £3 ISs, lighter 30s to £2 17s, smaller 15s to 28s. small and fresh-dropped 3s to l'2s Gd. Sheep ware penned in average numbers, and increased in price from Is to 2s per head on last week. Best wethers 23s 3d to 20s Sd, others 20s to 235. A small pen of wethers realised £1 12s Gd. Heavy ewes 18s 6d to £l, others lGs 9d to 18s 3d, lambs (best) 36s 0d to 10s, others 13s to 15s Gd, shorn lambs Ss !)d to 14s.
