He and another Herman oflicer, von Speclit, escaped' from the (lereiiin concentration camp at Lirer|Hiol- Katzer obtained a pass aboard ihe Sonoma from a friend. The steamer was thovonrdily searched in anticipation of the escapee's attempt to i;et aboard, bnt notliing was discovered until Katzer's ilying groans were, heard. No evidence was adduced to show how lie came to he hidden in the boat, of which the cover hail been laced down. The verdict, was that deatti was due, to his having been stowed away in an enclosed lifeboat. Von Specht is still missing.
