ALLEGED INCENDIARISM.
SENSATIONAL STORY AT FIRE INQUIRY. By Telegraph,—Press Association. Oamaru, March 18. At tlie magisterial rnquiry into the circumstances attending tlie recent fire in the Star and Garter Hotel sensational evidence was given by S. B. Clark, a commercial traveller, who deposed that Miss Telfar, a boarder, said to him the afternoon before, the fire: "Have yon brought your luggage with you, Mr. Clark'!" He asked why, and Miss Telfar replied: "If you have much luggage with you to-night- he ready for getting out." Pressed for a- reason. Miss Telfar eventually said the Star and Garter war; likely to he burned that night, as Mrs. Uarver had tokl her two months ago that they were losing money and the hou-e was not. paying. The only thing • was huni it down and get the insurance money. The ease is proceeding.
