NEW PLYMOUTH v. TIKORANGL With 23(i already scored in the first innings, against Tikorangi's 88 for nine wickets. New Plymouth' had little difficulty in scoring a three-point win. The Tikorangi not-out men, Huberts and Knuckoy, resumed to the bowling of lleskett and llamblyu. .Huberts, who

had already 57 to his credit, showed a determination to his, and at the snme time to keep the bowling. Two sixes came oil' lleskett; but, in attempting another oil' Hamblen. Roberts was well held by Stohr in the deep field. Following on (for the innings totalled but 108), those two batsmen began more cautiously. But the New Plymouth attack was too deadly to alio*' of much headway. Batsman after batsman was quickly dismissed. Roberts (21) was the only one to reach double figures; he was stumped somewhat luckily through a ball, which narrowly miss- j ed his leg-stump, bounding back immediately off Stainton's pads while the batsman was endeavouring to recover himself after a quick forcing stroke. New Plymouth fielding was on the whole excellent, though there were occasional notable weaknesses; Stainton allowed but five byes in the two innings. The innings closed for 44. leaving New Plymouth ea<y victors by an innings and 84 runs. It was agreed to continue in friendly practice, New Plymouth batting till five o'clock and Tikorangi taking the rest of the lime. Bottrill (3(1 retired). lleskett (21), Mason (10). and Ohappell (12) all showed a liking for the bowling, wdiilc "extras" scored 1(1. The total reached 111, hit up in remarkably fast time. The catches with which Roberts dismissed lleskett and Ohappell, both off Sarten. jun., were good pieces of fielding. Tikorangi's practice innings reached 04, Roberts (12) and F. Sarten (II) being the onlv ones to make anv showing. The full details of the two days' decisive innings are as follow: NEW PLVMOUTH.-First Innings. J. A. lleskett, b Roberts 140 W. P.
