His whole aim was to settle the matter constitutionally, and i in no way to bribe members. At no time 1 was any promise of money made to mem- ■ bera of Parliament. If Mutton had in- 1 dicatcd sucli a thing witness was no 1 party to the scheme. He complained of ! counsel's criticisms of the £3OO paid ' him. 1 '"Mr. Holman, the Premier, gave evi- < deuce that lie had not been approached with suggestitiVis of bribery, directly or indirectly. ' ■ ' Mr. Hall and Mr. Ashford gave similar I denials. '' Tlie enquiry adjourned sine die. ; The Crown Counsel said lie accepted • to the fullest Mr. Drew's statement that he bad had nothing to do in any way in ' ■ v connection with the statements of brib- ; cry and corruption.
