It is understood that Messrs Ilolman and Garmichael differed on the question whether Mr. Hall was entitled to higher Cabinet rank than Mr. Carmichacl, the latter contending that, in the event of the ahsoee of Mr. Ilolman, Mr. Cann would lie entitled, owing to his length of service, to he acting-Premier. Mr. Ilolman declined to alter the Ministerial precedence already fixed. The caucus adjourned to enable Messrs Ilolman and Carmichacl to adjust the difference so as to allow Mr. Carmichacl to re-enter the Ministry. | The consultation proved unsuccessful. I IThe caucus discussed the grievance I which led to Mr. Carmichael's resignation. Tt is understood that Mr. Carmichacl stuck to his gims, Mr. Ilolman maintaining his right to determine Ministers' order of procedure. Mr. Holm an stated that it was generally thought that Mr. Carmichacl did wrong in precipitating a crisis. Mr. Carmichacl rejected entreaties to reconsider his position. Thore were seven candidates for the vacancy. The ballot between Messrs Grahamo'and Burgess is incomplete. Two votes were not recorded. It is believed that Mr. Grahame leads by one vote. Further development is anticipated.
