STATE ASSISTANCE ASKED. ' ,] , By Telegraph.—Press Association. ; Auckland, Lost Night. {Representations have been made to the Government by the Auckland Farmers' Union in respect to the difficulties in obtaining.at a reasonable price seed: for extensive sowing of cereal and other crops. The suggestion was made that, the Government should Tindertake to supply at least portion of the seed, the payment for which is to stand against the crop. The Government should adi vertise that all farmers wishing to itti crease the area intended to, he sown; in wheat, oats, maize, rye, potatoes, etc, could procure 'seed from the Agri-i cultural Department under suftable conditions. Replying to these representations, Mr, Massej} wrote that if the Government arranged to supply seed to one man it would have to supply it to a large portion of farmers, bringing about an; impossible position. Judging by present appearances seed wheat suitoble for spring'sowing would be dear.,He couhj - \ K not recommend any of the imported graia>. for the purpose. It was very unfortunwe had experienced a drought bath in Australia and New Zealand during the war period, and if crops in New! Zealand had been up to the average this year we should not have had to go outside New Zealand for our -whofit. Mr. Massoy added that he would endeavour to bring the subject before the Cabinet.
