Against the Turks.
THE RUSSIAN CAMPAIGN. FURTHER SUCCESSES. Petrograd, March 9. Advices from Tiflis state that the Russians have driven Turkish troops from Klioi southwards, inflicting heavy losses. Since the beginning of the war the Russians have taken 18,016 Turkish prisoners. Petrograd, March 9. A communique states:—"We occupied important positions in the Transchorok region, throwing back the Turks south and westwards with heavy losses. THE EGYPTIAN CAMPAIGN. TURKS CLAIM VICTORY AT SUEZ. Cairo, March 9. Djemal Pasha's dispatch to Constantinople describes the canal reconnoitring exploit in which he hoped to make a stand until the main body of troops arrived. He adds: "We had crossed the canal and bayoneted the enemy, when a sandstorm interfered with operations. Six cruisers opened a horrible flanking fire and arm- ' oured trains used quickfirers. In spite ' of _ this we fought a pitched battle for ' thirty hours and success was on our side. ' Wc then retired ca'mly." THE FIGHT IN PERSIA. i MOSTLY AGAINST ARABS. ' Received March 10, 0.10 p.m. ' London, March 10. ' Calcutta declares that the enemy in ' Persia was composed almost entirely of ' Arabs, with comparatively few Turks.
