The Greek Crisis
PEOPLE WANT TO FIGHT. London, March 8. Reuter states that'the Greek Crown Council, with two dissentients, favoured immediate intervention and believe that Mr. Veniztelos will soon return to enforce his policy, M. VENIZELOS PLAYS FOR SAFETY*. WANTS THE ALLIES' .SUPPORT. Received March 9, 10.50 p.m. London, March 9. The Times, in a leader, says the only probable explanation of the Greek crisis is that M. Venizelos shared the opinions and desires of the nation to. join the Western Powers in an advance on Constantinople. An Athens, correspondent says that M. Venizelos is convinced that Greece without risk would acquire prestige ami also the right to demand compensation. ■ for completing national .unity by sending a military and naval force into" the Dar dandles. He wished thus to make sure that Greece would have the support of the Entente in the event of an AustroGerman attack through Servia.
WAR DECLARATION EXPECTED. THE KING MOST GIVE WAY. Received March 9, 10.50 p.m. Athens, March 0. M. Zaimes has declined to-form a Cabinet King Constantino has summoned M. Gouranis, a former Minister of Fin ance. The opinion is current that the King must give way to the outburst of popular sentiment in favour of reinstating M. Venizelos and declaring war. Violent demonstrations are occurring.
