Leave of absence was granted to Messrs. McKeown and Lambie. itr. Wilkinson, 11. I'., wrote that lie lad interviewed the Public Trustee in A'cllington in reference to the Board's oan of £50,000, and that the money ivas obtainable at 5 l-'J per cent-. .Mr. Wilkinson urged the. Board to interview the Public Trustee, and make a strong appeal regarding the Board's excellent security, so as to obtain the money required by the Board at the maximum rate of interest provided in the Opunake Harbor Bill—s per cent. The Board decided to telegraph to Mr. MeKeown, one of the Hoard's members, who was tlleu present in' Wellington, to interview the Public Trustee and leading firms on the possibility of raising the £50,000 at 5 per cent. The only application received for the position of secretary to the Board was from Mr. K. Canneil, at £25 per year. The matter of appointment/ was left with the chairman. Mr. K. Cave applied for a license to work the jetty wharf, now owned by him. for three years. —The Board granted the. application oh tile same terms as was granted to the late Jetty Com. pany. Endowments. —The three unlet reserves were authorised to bo put up by public tender. 'Ppset rentals were fixed in each case. Tire reserves range from 27 acres to one, acre. Legal opinion was received from the.! Board's solicitor in refercnct- to the Knmont Council taking gravel from a reserve, and the Parihaka Road Board j taking saml from the foreshore. The j opinipn was that the Council should have given notice to enter, and in not having done so were liable. The Road Board bad the power to take gravel from the foreshore, but not having l given notice were in the same -position as the Council. Since last notes Mr. Lockley was burnt out of his dwelling, on the Main South road near Piliama, and the family had barely time to escape. Practically nothing was saved. There was no insurance on the household furniture. The house belonged to Air. Dnggan and was insured, for £IOO. Stratford bowlers (Tour rinks) played Opunake on Thursday and won by C>s to 51. In the afternono Pihama defeated Stratford. . On Wednesday Piliama bowlers defeated Opunake by 00 to 57 in a banner ami shield match.
