BLOCK OF SHOPS BURNED. By Telegraph.-Pcr Press Association. ' Auckland, March I.' ' A fire at 6 o'clock this morning destroyed a block of seven shops in Manukau road, Epsom. The shops affected were those of S. and V. Eslick, drapers; Ji. J. Ivory, tobacconist and fancy goods; Mas Cox, fruiterer; W J Runciman, bootmaker; E F. Lee ironmongerJ. Griffin, fishmonger; and F. Jones, fruiterer. Four of the shops were new, and were owned by Misses Davidson, of Remuera. Eslicks owned the premises they occupied. Vincent owned the shop occupied by Ivory, and the Adams trustees the shop occupied by Miss Cox The properties occupied by J. F. Q ua ] e , bootmaker, and Copin's Supply Stores were P £lo™r! an ™ 6(l , The total 1(m is »*"■* £IO,OOO. The fire started in Ivory's shop, and when the two suburban brigades arrived the whole block was well alight. The flames spread across the street to the Epsom tramway barn which caught fire in several places but was not badly damaged, though' the 1 overhead tram lines and telephone lines I were burned, and the electric current cut oil for some time.

The insurances are.--Leo, £2OO in the South British Office: Ivory, £OOO on the stock in the Victoria Office. Ivory's shop is insured for £6OO in the Liverpool, London and Globe Office The four shops owned by the Misses Davidson are insured for £ISOO in the State Office Mrs Elsick had £4OO on her, property m the State Office. OUTBREAK AT PALMERSTON. Palmcrston J?., March 1. A fire on Saturday gutted the Loyal Orange Hall, and everything inside was destroyed. A five-roomed residence in Kelvin Grove, occupied by B. Jones, and owned by H. Jones, was also destroyed. AN HOTEL BURNED. Greymouth, March 1. The Empire Hotel, Moana, was destroyed by fire yesterday. Practically all the residents were absent at a picnic at the time. Jt is believed the fire originated in one of the back rooms. The insurance was .£BOO.
