It is arranging to permit export during the usual season under strictest Government supervision. ' The wheat and flour afloat for the United Kingdom is 2,315,000 quarter;?, for the Continent 3,060,000 quarters, Atlantic shipments 655,000 quarters, Pacific 14,000 quarters. The total to end ol the year in order t.-. control local Europe is 12n000 quart, r>\ in-.mding India 22,000 quarters, and Argentine 3C4,000 quarters. Wool.—At the sales there was a fair selection of merinos, and prices were maintained. The Mount View clip brought: Top price 16id, average ISJiI. There were catalogued 40,191 bales and sold 38,841. Frozen Meat—New Zealand: North Island, sheep sfd, best brands s|d, ewes 5 7-lfid; beef, fores 6 I-lfid, hinds 6 0-lOd. Australian: .Sheep, light s|d, medium 5 5-16 d, heavy s£d; lambs, best brands 7d, fair 6|d, "inferior 6gd; beef, fores 6Jd, hinds G 7-10 d. Argentine: Chilled fores GJd, hinds 7jd. Other meats unchanged. Cotton.—May-June, 4.87 d per lb. Jute.—Feb-March, £l9 15s. Hemp.—Steady, March-May £3l 10s. Rubber—Para 2s 5Jd, plantation 2s 3gd, smoked 2s sd. Copra.—January-February, £27 ss. Quicksilver, £250. ' Silver, 23 MGd per ounce.
HIGH COMMISSIONER'S REPORT. Wellington, Yesterday. Following is the High Commissioner's cable, under date February 28. (Note. - Quotations, unless otherwise specified are average market prices on spot) : Meat.—The market is firm, with -m upward tendency for all descriptions, owing to short supply at the market in consequence of delay in discharging. Mutton.—Fair demand: North Island 53d, ordinary quality sJtl, ewes 5 7-I*l. Lamb.—ln gqod demand; all lamb other than Canterbury 73d for quality, second grade 7gd. Beef.—A good demand continues. Hindquarters ' 6 9-16 d, forequarters 0 1-lfid. chilled hindquarters 7|d, forequarters 6}d.
Butter.—The market is steady and prices firmer at the close. Danish 130s to 1365; New Zealand is in good demand, and the market is steadier, 128s to 130s, and exceptionally 1325. unsalted 132s to 1345; Australian, 126s to 130sSiberian, 122s to 1245; Argentine 120s to 130s.
Cheese—The market is steady. Canadian? white and coloml, 80s to 925. New Zealand is in good demand, with the market firmer; white and colored 87.- to S»s. The English market regains firm, at 94s to 100s; Australian: Mhite and colored, 85s to 87s; United States, ,82s to 85s.
Hemp.—The market is not quite so firm, there being less demand. Holders are not anxious to sell. New Zealand good-fair "rade £3l, fair grade £29 fair current Manila £35. Forwa-d shipments are selling at the same prices. The :vitput from Manila for tho week was 30.000 bales.
Wool.—The market is strong. All stocks are advancing owing to Americans buying merinos freely. The estimated values are: Fine crossbreds, all grades, 15Id to 17{d; medium crossbred all grades, 14M to 10Jd; coarse crosshreds, all grades, 13id to 15 Jd; superior merinos 13Jd to 15d; medium merinos. 9d to JOJd.
Wheat—The market is slightly weaker with less demand for forward delivery owing to the prospect of the Dardanelles bombardment releasing the Russian supplies. The spot market is quiet and steady. Canadian, spot per quarter, C4s, April-May shipment 63s American,, spot 645, April-May shipment, f.3s. Argentine, February to April' shipment 625. p
