PETITION AGAINST MR. JENNINGS' RETURN. By Telegraph.—Per Press Association, Wellington, Tjasfc Night. c Kuiti, Last Night.
James Boddio, Mayor of To Kuiti, gave evidence tliat he saw Mr Jennings in tlie polling booth on election day when the latter complained about a note not being allowed. Witness knew Wilson was interested in a farm at Piopio.
It wa.3 proved that Mr Jennings' name was not on any ot'ier roll in New Zealand but Taumarmiui. The petitioner's case has closed. Mr Finlay addressed the Court on hehalf of the respondent. The most serious allegation, lie said, anneared to he that there were 315 ballot-papers in excess of names marked oi on the roll. He was in a (position to call witnesses who would swear their names were not marked off though they had voted. He claimed that the Court should order the cheeking -pf the •counterfoils. 'Concerning th" charges of irregularities at ■nollirnr-booth 5 " lie claimed that nothing hnd been' established which could alter the result of the election. The Court, adjourned 'n order that a ■scrutiny of the counter-foils could take place.
