| THE HAWERA CLUB. The annual general meeting of this club was hold on Friday night, Mr A. S. Tonks, vice-president, being in tli'j chair. i The balance-sheet showed that the [ club was in a sound financial position, | assets showing a very satisfactory balanace over liabilities. It was pointed out by tile secretary that nearly .€IOO of tlis expenditure shown in the annual statement would be non-recurring, due mainly to tile removing from the old links and to the work and expense incidental to the opening of new links. A great i deal of work had been done at the new course, and it was confidently expected that the eighteeen holes would be opened during the' coming season. i The election of officers resulted as follows:—Patron, A. W. Gillies; presi-1 dent R. D. Welsh; vice-president, V. 0. Kimbcll: captain, \V. O'Callaghau; j lion, sec., F. W. Sutton; General Committee: A. R. Tonks, J. Sturrock, G.| Holder, C. H. Walker. H. Elliott; match and programme committee; Captain and | secretary. handicappors, H. Elliott and 1 F. W. Sutton; green committee, A. Bar-1 ley. J. Stiirroek, and C. H. Walker Fifteen members were elected. The report congratulates members on the satisfactory position of the club. Special mention is made of the generosity of Mr A. S. Tonßs In allowing the use of bis beautiful property. Tho club is to be congratulated on" their enterprise in erecting a very fine club-house, a el-edit to so young a club, and one whicli will provide ample accommodation for years to come. The green committee have had a verv hard time, working, as they were, under the handicap of verv dry weather durinsr the first two months of last season. The caretaker hits put in a lot of hard work on the greens, which now promise well for the coming season. The back country is being brought in. their fairwavs already being cleared and greens marked out. " It is exneeted that the whole eighteen holes will be ooen during the coming season. During the last season four outside matches were wan and throe lost. 4. recommendation is made to the incoming committee to arrange as many as possible because of tile interest created amongst members. The owning day was fixed for Wednesday, March 3.
