AMUSEMENTS.
EMPIRE PICTURES. The ever-popular Empire Theatre was packed again last Saturday night when a splendid programmo of pictures and music was presented. 'War's Heart Blood" by the Svenska Company, was the feature. Iva n and Gregori, the two sons of an old Russian general, are rivals for the hand of a peasant girl, Katjuscha. Gregori is successful, and on the day of the wedding Ivan swears vengeance. When the father learns of the wedding, he turns Gregori out of doors to live with Katjuscha and her people. The Russians declare war and though Ivan answers the call and goes away a captain, Gregori remains behind until seized by the Press Gang. He. is captured by I the enemy's picket who ill turn are taken by the Russians. Ivan condemns Gregori to death as a spy and just, as the latter is shot by the firing partv. the enemy commences an attack in which Ivan himself it mortally wounded. Katjuscha. who lias been looking for Gregori finds his dead body with Ivan lying alongside. \ln his dying breath Ivan pleads for forgiveness which Katuscha refuses and the two brothers are buried in the same grave. "The Awakening of Barbara Dare," a Vitagraph drama, was thoroughly appreciated bv those present. Other films arc "Bird Life" (interest) "Bill Squares it With the Boss," and "While Auntie Bounced" (comedies), "Pathe Gazette" and' "Life Under tile Sea," (educational). A special war topical is on to-night's programme, "Antwerp I uuder Shot and Shell."
