OUR MILK SUPPLY.

THE VALUE OF GREEK FODDER. Recognising that anything that tended to increase the output of milk, or that enabled the supply to be kept up in the dry season, must be of immense value to the farmer, and to the community as a whole in a district which is primarily devoted to the production of butter and cheese, the Taranaki Agricultural Society last year decided to introduce green fodder competitions at the Autumn Show. These they considered would he in the interest of the farmers, by encouraging them to take an active interest in experimenting and demonstrating which green fodder will give the best' results in milk 'production per acre. It- was felt that thft informs-. tion'so gathered would, in the course of a few years, be of very considerable, benefit to the farmers in the district. That farmers are alive, to the advantages is shown by the fact that whereas last year there were five entries in the class, this year there are thirteen. In order to make the competition of greater practical interest to farmers, the committee have arranged for a Government expert to judge the fodder, and also to give an address on the subject of green fodder for milk on the evening of the first show day. The expert, Mr. Primrose McConnell. than whom it is generally recognised there is no better authority on agriculture in the Dominion, will arrive from Huakura on Monday evening, and will be shown over some of the farms in the district by Mr. J. S. Connett, president of the Society, on Tuesday. It is to be hoped that tiiere will be a good'atteildanee at the Good Templar Hall on'the occasion of the address, so that as many farmers and members of the general public as possible may benefit by it.
