DROWNING ACCIDENTWellington, Thursday. Tlie police received information th.it James McGregor, n n attendant at the Porirua Mental Hospital, was drowned at Titahi Bay -this afternoon while bathing. Deceased, who was unable to swim, entered shallow water some distance away from his companions, who did not notice his predicament. He had been employed as an attendant at Porirua for a considerable period. The body was recovered. A MOTOR SMASH. CAR JUMPS A PENCE. 13)' Telegraph.— Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. A rather sensational motor smash occurred on the Hutt road this evening. A car was travelling at a gKeat rate, and met four cyclists near the Hutt bridge. The latter became flustered, and sprcadeagled across the road. The driver lost control of the car, which swerved, and collided violently with one cyclist, knocking liirn forcibly against th t . side of a shop, and rendering him unconscious. The ear dashed into a ' fence, turned a somercault, and landed on the other side in a vacant section. The driver was pinned to the ground by the steering gear, and stunned, the four occupants being thrown clear on to the soft soil, but all were bruised, and are suffering from shock.
