HIGH COMMISSIONER'S REPORT. The High 'Commissioner reports under date London, February 17, at 7.55 p.m.: Paris reports that all engaged in yesterday's air raid returned, despite the intense cannonade. In the Champagne districts ten German counter-attacks were made during the night. A blockhouse and a hundred metres of trenches were destroyed near Fontaine and Charmes. In Argonne a violent attack in the neighbourhood of Fond de Paris was completely repulsed, with heavy losses tr the enemy. Some prisoners were taken. Tin; French marine reports that tlie steamer Ville Dellc. near Barfleur, was sunk by a German submarine. The crew was'given ten minutes to escape. The submarine afterwards attacked a Norwegian steamer, but French torpedo boats forced the submarine to escape submerged. ' Wellington, Last Night. The Prime Ministel received the following from the High Commissioner, dated London, February 18, at 3.25 a.m.: Paris reports that from the sea to the Oise our artillery fire dispersed numerous bodies of Germans, whose ammunition waggons were blown up and convoys shattered. North of Arras the Allies captured two lines of trenches, inflicting heavy losses. In the Champagne district, north-west of Perthes, we captured German positions on a front of eight hundred metres. In Argonne progress was made in the forest of Lebrurie, notwithstanding two violent counter-attacks and encounters of cold steel, causing the enemy heavy losses. A strong German attack at Four de Paris was completely repulsed. French aeroplanes bombarded the station fit- Freiburg. [Freiburg (Freiburg-im-Breisgau), in the Grand Duchy of Baden, at the, west foot of th P Black Forest, 39 miles by rail north-east of Basel, and about 25 miles north-east of the Mulh&usen (Alisacc.)]
