RETURNED FROM NEW GUINEA. THE MEAT REQUISITION ACT. Received 18, 0.30 p.m. .Sydney, February IS. A thousand men, the balance of the first expeditionary force 'in German New Guinea, have returned, and were given a great welcome. Tile Ffidevnl Government has prohibited the export of leather. The Governor has given his assent to the Meat Supply for Imperial Usee. Act, but until the desires of the Imperial Government in the matter are known there will be no interference with present methods. DRY CANTEENS AND DRINKING. Melbourne, February 18. A large deputation petitioned the State Premier ,to restrict the sale of intoxicating liquor to' the expeditionary forces by the earlier closing of hotels. Mr. Peacock replied that lie had no power to alter the closing time, and added that he thought the abolition of wet canteens had a good deal to do with the drinking in the city.
