TARANAKI HOSPITAL BOARD.

MOA'TIILY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Taranaki Hospital and Charitable Aid Board was held yesterday. Present: Mr. Y. C. .].' Bellringer (chairman), Mrs. Dockrill, Messrs G. W. Browne, K. The medical superintendent (Dr. Walker) reported that 58 patients had been admitted, 41 discharged, 5 deaths, and 62 remained in the 'hospital. A circular was read from Dr. Frenglev pointing out that a defect In the Act relative to deceased persons estates required amendment, there being no' remedy for recovering hospital charges from the sons where there were no effects of the deceased person's estates.— Received,

CHARITABLE AID. Several charitable aid cases were dealt with. PROBATIONERS. The applications of Misses Grace Bruce and Jessie T. Miller for probationerships were complied with, and as tnere were no probationers on the list, while probationers were required, the applicants had been notified to report for duty. TENDERS. The chairman brought up the question of calling for tenders for supplies. He pointed out that owing to the present unsettled state of affairs it might be advisable to continue with the present contracts. Mr. Maxwell considered that under the 'circumstances it would be advisable to make arrangements to continue the present contracts, at the amended prices, from month to month.—This course was adopted. CHAIRMAN'S REPORT.' The chairman reported that a man had been employed to do up the garden* He also stated that the workon the medical staff last month had- been very heavy, as several lengthy operations had been carried out. Everything was going on satisfactorily. Accounts amounting to £7lB lis 3d, (including £IOO refund for the new hospital), were passed for payment. X-RAY ASSISTANT. i On the recommendation of the medical sueprintendent, Mr. F. Walden Hall was appointed honorary assistant to Dr. Leatham in the X-Ray department of the hospital. Dr. Walker stated that during Dr. absence Mr. Hall had discharged the duties of his office with conspicuous ability, and that the medical men of the town were indebted to him for many courtesies.
