A letter from the Wellington Society's secretary was re*l on tlie subject of the railing of stock, sheen and pigs, and forwarding a copy of "Railway Orders as to Live Stock," indicating tlie care shown by the Department for the protection of animals in transit. ft was resolved to ask tlie Wellington Society to supply two dozen copies of their notice containing extracts from the Police Offences Act relating to ■cruelty to animals, these notices to be affixed 1 at railway stations and other public places. It was decided to write to the Director of the Live Stock and Meat Division of the Stock Department, asking to he put into communication with a Government veterinary surgeon, with a view to getting his assistance in examining certain horses about which complaints have been received. A letter was received from the late secretary, Mr. G. F. Robinson, giving a full and interesting account of the Canterbury Society's work. Tlie inspector's report was read ami discussed, and it was decided to investigate a case of alleged cruelty to an animal at Westown. Mr. J. Paton was asked to arrange for lady collectors of annual subscriptions. The treasurer renortcd a balance in 1/and of £l2 os lid.
