NEW GUINEA TRADE. UNDER GERMAN AUSPICES. Sydney, February 15. Prior to bis departure homeward a German New Guinea official stated that the Germans spent £IOO,OOO yearly In development work in New Guinea. The trade turnover was worth about £OOO,000 yearly, principally from copra, cocoa, and turtle shell, while last year the bird of paradise trade produced £25,000.
ALLEGED TRADING WITH TIIE ENEMY. A GERMAN DISAPPEARS. Received 15, 9.10 p.m. Sydney, February 15. Alfred Strauss, a German, charged with trading with the enemy, failed to appear. His bond of £IOOO was estreated, and a warrant issued for his urrest.
GERMAN EMPLOYEES' RIGHTS. Reeived 15, 0.10 n.m. Sydney, February 14. Silvester, a butcher, who discharged his German employees in October, appealed to Judge. Ileydon, who upheld the Magistrate's decision that the dismissal of Germans was illegal. The mere fact, lie said, that the men were German subjects gave Silvester no right to employ them on other than award terms. He added: "It is better for us that enemy subjects should work for their living than remain idle."
CONVEYANCE OF MEAT TO BRITAIN Received 15, 11.30 p.m. Sydney, Febraasy 15. The Overseas Shipping Association has offered the Government all available tonnage for the conveyance of meat to Britain.
TROOPS FROM NEW GUINEA. Received IS, 1.25 a.m. Sydney, February 15. The transports Navua and Eastern will arrive oil Wednesday. They are bringing a thousand troops from New Guinea, the balance of the force which left Sydney on August 18, under Colonel Holmes.
