DISTRICT NEWS.

I RABOTU. j The 'Harvest Thanksgiving services ; were held in the church last Sunday j.evening. The Rev. AdderiTiroke preached to a good congregation. The church was nicely decorated %y Mrs. C. Penwarden, Misses 'Hopkins, West and Tyr:rell. On the following ..evening the concert was held, the stage being decorated with the gifts, which were numerous. The programme was as follows: —Mr. Illingsworth, song, "The Carnival," and .encore, •'"Nancy Lee;" Mr. Evans, song, "The Midsliipmite," and encore, "My Old Shako," which*" was given later; Mrs. D. Penwarden, song, "River of Years," which -was encored; Rev. Adden■brokc, "The Boys of the Old Brigade," and encore; Mr. Manning, song, "She is far from Land," and encore; Mr. D. Pen-j ■warden, song, "Mandalay." The gifts were then disposed of, realising £ls 3s lOd. Supper was handed round, and a dance by the young people followed. j The Methodists are holding their Har-' rest Services on the 27th. J

A wedding of interest: was celebrated at the Catholic Presbytery, Opunake, thc contracting parties being Mr. Francis Rothcry, youngest son of thc late Mr. Jacob Rotlicrv, and Miss Sarah Morrow, fourth daughter of the late Mr. Richard Morrow. The bride was attired in white silk, anad wore, a becoming white hat. 'Miss Whilcmina, sister c-f the 'bride, was bridesmaid, and Mr. J.' Barrett best man. After the ceremony the friends journeyed back by car to partake of the breakfast, which was held at the bride's mother's, where the usual toasts were proposed. Later on the bride and bridegroom left by car, en route for Hawera, amidst showers of rice and th 0 good wishes of their many friends.

Mr. Kasper lias sold out the hotel, and talks of going farming. He and his family will be very much missed in the district.
