FIREWORKS DISPLAY.
AT PUKKKURA PARK. AN ATTRACTIVE SCENE. ' In fixing the popular programme of t'ttrnctioiis at the .Recreation (Grounds It')' the first iiiirltt of the Taranaki Jockey Club's autumn meeting, the ' 11 uUikura Park iLioard acted wisely, there boiiJif an attendance of over two thousand, all of whom spent a thorouglily enjoyable evening, Fortunately : ni .v't was an ideal one for the purpose it being eajin and dark, so thafc in- ellwU 'produced by the varied br:iJiant colours of the fireworks, and the v.vid hues of the burning powder* emong the tress and shrubs were seen to the greatest advantage. It was a least ol colour that was enhanced bv. the natural beauty of the Park, and a ; fight that could not be equalled m 'the Nonunion. Son;e 500 fairy lamps, besides a lio.it of Chinese lantcnis, were used with charming' effect, and ail eon* corned are to bo congratulated on the sinking success achieved A feature of tha gathering was thn excellent musical programme, vocal and 'the vocalist? were Mrs 1. C. List, who sang "The Carnival/Mr jiaslain, who contributed two songs and Messrs A. Gray and A. C. Do\vnes,'wh«' sanjr n duct The effect of these ex. ctptioniilly well rendered items in the * open air Inmid such ibmea,Ubiful surloundiugs was exquisite, and the singers wore justly accorded very hearty, applause, as was Mr Cray's giee parfcji Jor their artistic rendering of the "Hunt-. i 1 Tlln accompaniments ircra excellently -played hy Mies George. , The; wuzens Band was in attendance, an J SL>vcral selections, concluding with' the popular -"Tipperary" (by special l request). Tlie playing of the band was, most lavonrably commented upon, and members are 1o he- congratulated on havm acquitted themselves so well.
