AUCKLAND SESSIONS. By Telegraph.—i'er I'rcsa Association. Auekland, February 8. In tlie Supreme Court, Charles Samuel Lake, charged with setting fire to the railway station at Tauranga, in consideration of his previous good character, was sentenced to two years' reformative treatment. Leslie Finlayson McKenzie, a postal servant, was admitted to the maximum period of three years' probation. Enest Adams, found guilty of incest, was sentenced to seven years' imprisonment. PUBLICANS AND CHEQUES. . Dunedin, Last Night. At the Supreme Court to-dny, David Murray Dickson was arraigned on three charges of forgery and one charge of false pretences. Accused at first pleaded not guilty, but after hearing evidence withdrew that plea, and Mr Brascll made an appeal for leniency. Judge Dennistor. said i\o would give the prisoner another charge, as he did not wish to make a criminal of him. He had already suffered two months' imprisonment. The prisoner was placed under bation for twelve months, and ordered to 'pay the costs (£5) of the prosecution. His Honor declined to order restitution to publicans, as lie did ' not consider they should be encouraged to cash cheques.
