RACING FIXTURES. Feb. J.C. Summer. Feb. 'd.—Gisbornc R.C. Summer. Feb. 10, 11.—Taranaki J.C. Autumn. : Feb. 17, 13.—Woodville J.C. Autumn. Feb. 25, 27.—Wanganui J.C. Autumn. THE TARANAKI CUP. (By "Moturoa.") On Wednesday next the Taranaki Jockey Club's autu.mii meeting will open, and everything points to this gathering proving a record success. The Taranaki Cup, run over one mile and a quarter, will bring together a number of horses whose form lias been more or less oposcd at Hawera and at Takapuna, and the alterations made by re-liandi-caps or penalties rather complicates matters. No doubt the Taranaki Jockey Club has good reason for declaring weights for the Cup as early as at present, but it looks as if there would have been a more equitable handicap prepared if tiie weights had been held back until Thursday evening. As it stands now, the weights appear to be as follow: —Enrperador 9.4 (including 71bs penalty), Bedford 8.5, Byron 8.5, Goldsize 8.0, Bertrada 7.13, Royal Irish 7.10, Square Deal 7.10, Patrona'le 7.10, Astor 7 9, Phosphorus IS, Chaminade 7.0, Soldier fi.ll. Court Martial 6.11, Ovation 0.7, Ladify G. 7. Invader 6.7. Emperador is considered a certain starter, and on Egmont form should give a good account of himself. Phosphorous ran a sterling race in the Takapuna Cup, in which' (with overweight) he gave Bedford 41bs. Phosphorous, of course, has no penalty hers, find fo make Bedford fit in with Goldsize, Royal Irish and the other Aucklandcrs. the handicapper has had to hoist tlio Takapuna Cup winner to 8.5. Thus Phosphorous is meeting Bedford on 2111)3 better terms here. Royal Irish and Square Deal, who both ran into places this week, also look to have a pull over some of the penalised ones. The man in the street reckons he can tell yon the winner now but, horses, unfortunately, do not always run like machines. TTJEF TOPICS. Canterbury races to-day. Concluding day at Gisborne. .Taranaki on Wednesday and Thursday. Rinaldo ran a fine race in the Ivawerw Stakes.

Traill rode the winners of 'both hurdle races at Hawera.

Wild Lupin changed hands at a very low figure on Thursday. Down may get up in time to trouble the opposition in the Lyttleton Plate at Riccarton.

Sea Pink appeared to be sore at Hawera, and those of his backers who weren't "sore" also—saw red! The Toa Tere case caused a lot of idle rumour to be bandied about at Egmont, but there wasn't much in the case after all.

The Auckland contingent for the Taranaki meeting may not be a large one, but the writer has it on good authority that Merry Roe will be a runner here. Sunbird had all the worst of the' luck at Hawera, and it looks any odds on her winning a good race shortly. ilosalvs has not been doing too well lately and her showing at Hawera was miles below what we saw at Stratford last month.

Rewi Poto is looking very fit.jijst now, and with a better run than he got on the first day at Hawera he should score soon.

Bold Stroke is one of the worst horses at the barrier seen in Taranaki. There is no doubt about her pace, but at present she is a nuisance to the starter and an injustice to her better behaved opponents. Bonny Rigg, Snapdragon and Harlequin are a trio of horses that will be well backed at.Ricearton this afternoon.

The Multifi'd "cattle" are still distinguishing themselves at Gisborne, and a punter should never miss one of them. They are good! L. Wilso n piloted three winners nt Hawera, and L. Traill, A. Reed and W. Bell two each. Others to score were: R. Berry, G. McDonald, A. Mitchell, Hen--1 derson, Shields. OTMloran and McCarten.
