HIGH COMMISSIONER'S "REPORT. Wellington, Yesterday. Tlie High Commissioner reports, under date London, February 4 (5.25 p.m.): Paris reports that in the Nicuport region the artillery fighting was particularly lively. fn the Lens neighbourhood a violent German attack on the morning of February 3 was repelled by artillery, also the bombardment of the route Arras-Bethune-Albert. At Gucsnoy the Allies destroyed several blockhouses. North of Massigcs. profiting by the explosion of a mine, the Germans advanced, but the Allies retook the whole position, establishing new trenches. London, February 5 (12.40 a.m).
Paris reports that west of the LilleArras road, the Allies captured two to three hundred metres of trenches. In front of Verdun the "French brought down an aircraft, making the aviators prisoners.
