TARNOFF EVACUATED. DECISIVi; ~.VL"i.7,E PROCEEDING. Received fi, 12.45 a.m. Amsterdam, February 5. An Austrian official statement says:— We evacuated Tarnoff owing to the Russian bombardment. A decisive battle is proceeding in the. Dukla region, where w r e are feeling the strong Russian pressure in the direction of Bukeba and the neighboring passes.
A PRETEXT, NOT A CAUSE OF THE AVAR. SOME RECENT REVELATIONS. London, February 4. A Red Book, published in Vienna, gives fresh evidence of Russia's early warning to Austria and Germany that their methods of pressing Servia meant a big war. Sir Edward Grey, in reply to a question, said that the Government did not know of Austria's intention to attack Servia in 191:? until Signor Gioletti's recent revelations. The fact showed that the assassination of the Archduke Ferdinand did not cause, but was the pretext for the war. Petrograd, February 4. A communique states that the battle in the Borjimoff district continues with unabated violence and righting in the Carpathians is- more intense, owing to German reinforcements. Amsterdam, February 4. Cubrolvie, Janoric, Illie. Prinzip, and their accomplices have! been executed at Serajevo.
