HIGH COMMISSIONER'S CABLE.

The High Commissioner reports undel date, February 3 (5.40 p.m.):— Paris reports that al Noulette, west of Lens, a battery of the Allies silenced the enemy after a lively fusillade. On the' river Ancre, above Avluy, fire-brand vessels thrown loose by the Germans were stopped bv the Allies before their explosion. On" tint hill two hundred yards from Perthes, the Allies made slight progress, taking prisoners and repelling counter-attacks. In the Argonne and at Bagatelle the German second attack was repulsed.

Petrograd reports: "Conflicts with the enemy are always favorable to us in the Mlawa district. On February 1 an artillery battle of considerable vioJenoc occurred in the Bolimow mad on the left bank of the Vistula. A German attack in the region north of Borzimoff was repulsed with heavy losses to the enemy. We re-occupied the advanced trenches which we lost on January 31 in a fight near a farm south of the village of Goumene. TAfter a determined battle south of the Pilica at Donmactz, the enemy unsuccessfully attempted to advance after a day and night of severe fighting. In the Carpathians, fighting continues. On January 31 and February 1, we captured, after advanced fighting ufer an extended front, in the Dukla Pass region, at Jahlishm'esolabocz six guns, two howitzers, and quick-firers. Many prisoners were also captured. In the same region the offensive at Ysotzko. south-east of the itjsok Pass, was repelled with enormous loss. German advice from the Carpathians confirm the statement on February 1 that a "Battalion of the 2'24th German Regiment was annihilated south-east of the Beskid Pass The remainder, including a battalion and the company commanders, were made prisoners."
