Official: German attacks were repulsed west of Perthes, north of Mesnille sur Lees, north of Massiges, and also at Pavilion and Bagatelle. AN EX-NEW ZKALANDEU KILLED. SON OF EARL RANFURLY. Received 4. 5.5 p.m. London, February 4. Viscount Northland, only son of Earl Ranfurly, died from wounds received while serving with the Coldstream Guards at La Bassee. REINFORCEMENTS FOR ALLIES. PREPARING FOR A GREAT OFFENSIVE. London, February 3. IA Canadian correspondent in Northern France states that the Allies have formed tremendous camps in various places between the fighting line and the coast. Already large numbers of welltrained reinforcements and immense quantities of new guns and supplies of all sorts are stacked in readiness for a big campaign in the spring, which indications point will be an early one. The Tsar has conferred the military medal on the Queen of the Belgians, in recognition of her heroic conduct in attending the sick and wounded at the risk of her life. FRENCH OFFICIAL REPORT. Paris, February 3: A communique states: "We stopped fire boats launched at Ancre River, north of Albert, before they exploded. We slightly progressed near Perthes, taking a number of prisoners. The day was uneventful elsewhere. FRENCH AIRMEN IN ALSACE. .A GERMAN CASTLE DESTROYED. Received 5, 12,5 a.m. London, February 4. Frencli airmen bombed the famous Ilomberg Castle, in Alsace, where a number of German staff officers were living. The castle was fired and destroyed.
