(From. Our Own Correspondent). BOROUGH COUNCIL. The monthly meeting of the above Council was held on Wednesday evening. Present:—His Worship the Mayor, Crs. Spurdle, Blanchard, Morgan, Langman, Rattenbury and Brabant. The special meeting of tlie Domain Board was held prior to the ordinary meeting. The annual report and bal-ance-sheet for the year were read ami adopted. Mr Short notified the Council that the monument for the old soldiers' cemetery would arrive in the colony in a few, weeks' time, and asked the Council to supply tlie necessary lettering. The matter was left in His Worship the ; Mayor's and Cr. Brabant's hands. \ The secretary of the Tennis Club I wrote that the club did not intend to ! proceed any further in reference to the ' piece of land on the Camp Reserve, and I that the matter would be allowed to ! stand over. : A request from the newly-formed freezing works cricket club to cut the grass on the cricket pitch on the old r< creation grounds was agreed to. The annual subsidy of £SO was grant- ■ ed to the fire brigade. ■ A, Hatrick and Co. applied for a license to store benzine, etc.. It was resolved that a license be granted to store not more than 100 cases, and tlie fee to be £l. Mr A. R. Greenwood, of Urenui, wrote asking permission to drive cattle down West Quay to the Freezing works inI stead of driving them along the ordin- ] ary route. The request was not granted. I The engineer's and foreman's reports was read for work done during the month. The building inspector's' report was read, showing that the buildings erected for the six months ending December 31, I amounted to £28,362.
