SUPREME COURT.
TIMARU SESSIONS. ALLEGED SHEEP-STEALING; By Telegraph.—Per Press Association. Timaru, Last Night. At the Supreme Court, the charg* against Robert Guthrie, holder of a grazing rfn at Mount Nessing, of stealing 48 sheep from a neighbor named ■Maxwell, began to-day. Mr. McCasßey, of the Crown Law Office, Wellington, assists Mr. White, Crown Prosecutor, and Mr. P. C. Skcrrett with him. Mr. W. P. Campbell is for the defence; white Mr. H. D. Acland watches the ease for the Sheep Owners' Union. The Crow» relies upon Guthrie's failure to give notice of his intention to muster; his refusal at first to muster on the polict demand; that a number of Maxwell's sheep had been shorn by Guthrie, and branded with his brand; and that som« of Maxwell's sheep had had ear-mark* altered to convert them to Guthrie's mark. In cross-examination, Maxwell, also Neville, a stock inspector, said that som« altered marks were not converted i» Guthrie's, being on the wrong ears or wrong shapeß, and thus were nobody** marks. The case ib likely to last over tomorrow. OAMARU SESSIONS. Oamaru, Last Night. At the Supreme Court to-day Williain> Johnson was found .lot guilty On 6/ charge of wounding horses at Otekaike. In two cases arising out of New Year convivialities at Moeraki, namedly against Paddy Homestead, for forging a telegram ordering beer, and Paani Poretrfor alleged unlawful bodily harm by biting a piece out of the ear of Georg«» Reynolds, both were found not guilty;
