STEALING NEWSPAPERS.
A PREVALENT MISCHIEF. The following appeared in the Eltham Argus "Correspondewe" plunms yes- ■ • ■ _'.': "Many newspaper subscribers, not only to the Argus, but to the Hawcra Star and the Daily News, iave constantly to submit to the annoyance of having their papers stolen. I .have frequently witnessed people riding or driving along the road stop and lift a newspaper from the front of a settler's gate and then drive on. This stealing of newspapers is quite a common performance, and I : wonder that there have been no prosecutions before now. J suppose it would be a case of libel if you printed-the ' names of any of these' mean thieves—though think: it should be libel to publish thfe truth. • However, I enclose you the names (not for publication) of two people that you should keep a watch on. They do not subscribe to any newspaper, but nevertheless odd dates of the' Argus, Star and Ltoily Ncfs ican always be found in.tyieir is terribly annoying to have' one's evening.paper stolen in thtße days, when we are all so anxiously watching ttic war news. Hoping that you may put an end to the nuisance, etc,"
