HEAVY DAMAGE AT SAMOA. i VESSELS ASHORE AT SUVA. By Telegraph.—Per Press Association. Auckland, Yesterday. Passengers by the Atua state thatthe hurricane at Samoa and Fiji caused 1 much damage to crops and shipping. In addition, heavy tropical rains in Fiji flooded the plantation areas worse than has been known for twenty years. In the upper reaches of the Rewa district, the river waters rose almost 70 feet, causing considerable damage to crops. The full fury of the storm was felt in the Tavinui and VartuaLevu districts. At Suva about twenty vessels were driven ashore and damaged. It is stated that a number of coolies employed on various plantations lost their lives. Large heTds of cattle were drowned and the owners of banana plantations sustained enormous losses.
