DEFENCE RIFLE CLUB.
MARCS TO WAITARA. About fifty members of the New Plymouth Defence Rifle Club took part 111 a march to Waitara and back yesterday, and an enjoyable and instructive time was spent. The members paraded about 7.15 a.m., and set out for the march, under Lieutenants Crutch and Clarke and Quartermaster-Sergeant Collins. On arriving at Bell Block the men were entertained to morning tea. At 'Waitara road they were met by Captain Johns and a godd muster of theWaitara National Reserve. On reaching Waitara they were entertained by Captain Johns to morning tea, after which they paraded to church. At the conclusion of luncheon, at which the officers were the guests of Lieutenant Brabant, the men were shown over the I Waitara Freezing Works. After partakI ing of afternoon tea, the troop left for home, being accompanied as far as Wai- | tara road by the Waitara National Re- ! serve. They were met near the golf ! links by the New Plymouth Citizens' 'Band, which played them into town. Near the golf links the company was treated by Mr. W. C. Weston to soft drinks, which the hot day made very acceptable. fTowri was reached shortly after 6.30 p.m. An express accompanied the march to carry any that dropped out fatigued, but it was only utilised to carry coats, etc. Indeed, to show ' that they were becoming inured to war conditions, the physical drill squad, who are competing at the fete on Thursday, insisted on going through their exercises on the return from the march.
