FIGHTING AMONG OUTPOSTS. TURKS DRAWING NEARER TO SUEZ, Received 31, 5.5 p.m. Cairo, January 30. The Turks occupy Katia with outposts at liireldueixar, twelve miles nearer the canal; also outposts at Moyahsrab, 25 miles eastward of the Bitter Lakes, and Birinabeiuk, ten miles eastward of Suez. A French pilot and British observer, who were obliged to leave their hydroaeroplane in tlie desert, when returning afoot in the darkness were shot dead by a British patrol, being mistaken for the enemy. The Turks attacked Kubri, a post near Suez, but were easily'repulsed. The Turks withdrew from several advance posts owing to fright caused by aeroplane bombs. COMIC OPERA OFFICIALS. Melbourne, January 30. Mr. Bean, the Australian official correspondent, cables that the attitude of Turkish officials at tne coastal ports visited by British ships provides a continual comedy. A cruiser recently called at Sidon and landed a party of sailors. The commander of the Turkish troops pleaded indisposition and retired to his private room until the British had departed after a thoroughly friendly visit. Later the Governor of Damascus officially published an account of how the Turkish troops heavily defended Sidon and finally drove oil' the enemy. The cruiser also , landed parties at Alexandretta without resistance. A general hospital has been established at Heliopolis Palace Hotel, one of the most luxurious in the world.
