GRASS FIRE AT AWATERE.
EXTENDS OVER TWENTY MILES'. By TeJcgn.pn.—-Per Press Association. Blenheim, January 30. A grass fire broke out in the Awater® district yesterday, and covered a large extent of country, and ,is spreading rapidly. !A large area of the XJpton Downs property was incinerated, the homestead being saved with difficulty. Despite all efforts, the fire spread over the Medway district, and a number of settlers lost heavily by the destruction of sheep pastures. It is reported this afternoon that th« fire is spreading in a westerly direction, having travelled a distance of twenty miles.
