A MAORI DROWNED. DISAPPEARS WHILE FISHING. A native named Wliarenata Tiiera, 55 years of age, was, with his daughters and two other Maoris, engaged in/ netting fish at the mouth of the Taungatara river about 10 o'clock on Thursday evening, when lie suddenly disappeared, without uttering any cry. His companions did not notice his absence at first, but when they did a search was made, and, proving fruitless, help was summoned, the Maoris from a neighboring pali searching all night by torchlight. On Friday the search was resumed, but up to a late hour no trace of the body had been found. Wliarenata was a strong swimmer, and the theory is advanced that he was dragged under by a shark.
