AWARDS FOR RESCUES, By Tclegraph.-lv-r tress Association. Christchurch, Last Night. The Court of Directors of the Royal ■Humane Society granted tho following awards to-day:— In the case of Rima Sadaraka (21) for rescuing two young men from' drowning at Aitutaki, Cook Islands, on the i)th January, 1914, the facts were that there occurred a terrific hurricane the worst experienced in the islands 'for some years. A small trading steamer reached L\itutaki from Baratonga about 2 p.m., but tlie sea being so rough, it was unable to reach the shore. A boat Went out to attempt to reach ti)h schooner, but, being unable to do ao was returning to the shore, when the' crew were capsized into the surf. Rima Sadaraka, one of the party, managed to reach the reef in safety, .but, seeing some of his companions in difficulties in the surf, he twice plunged into the water to their assistance, and at pergonal risk he succeeded in bringing two youths to the surface to regain their breath, and ultimately he brought them one at a time to the reef, whence thev wero rescued in an exhausted condition. A silver medal was awarded. In the case of David Cosgrove (62), for rescuing Herbert McGarry (22) from drowning at liaiapoi on tho flth January, 1013, a bronze • medal was awarded. In the case of Arthur Jeffs (44), tor rescuing men from drowning at Manukau Heads on the" 25th January, 1814, a bronze medal was awarded. In the case of Herbert Cashman (46), for rescuing John V. Strachan (4%) from drowning at Wellington on th*> 13th October, 1914, a certificate was awarded.
