PASSES RECORDED. Christchurch, January 27. At the session of the University Senate to-day the interim report of the recess committee of the December examinations was received. The committee's recommendations were adopted, and scholarships were awarded as rollows: Junior University Scholarships—H. J. Colvin, R. S. R. Francis, H. E. Reynolds, N. M. Richmond, F. L. Davis, M. - G. Pezaaro, C. F. M. Smith, F. C. Hutchinson, S. H. J. Wilson, and V. W. Holdwi. Senior National Scholarships—J. E. Learning, R. E. F. Barnett, J. C. Dickenson, W. T. G. Airey, R. Gilkison, W. J. Piatt, Edith ,M. Egerton, Kathleen A. McKeage, Olive L. Hunt, H. D. C. Adams, Ethel W. J. Fenton, L. H. Marshall, Phyllis J H. Tumlmll, Agnes R. Blackie, D. A. N. Mackenzie, L. G. M. Taverner, L. C. Hemery, Valeria Johnson, R. O. Page, Dorothy E. E. V. G. B. Clarke, H. F. Taylor, and that the j next five candidates be recorded as qualified to hold scholarships. S. A. Wiren, of Wellington College, gained seventh place in 1 the entrance scholarship examination, but, being under age, was not qualified to hold the scholarship. Of .the remaining candidates for en- ■ trance scholarships, fifty-nine were recorded as having gained "credit," and also as having qualified for matriculation and the solicitor's and general knowledge, and of the remainder forty were recorded as having qualified for matriculation and solicitor's general knowledge. Jean Matheson was recorded as having passed in French for intermediate Mus. Bac. The following were recorded as having qualified for the medical registration entrance scholarship papers:—R. ,S R France, !A. Reid, R. Gilkison, S. R. A. Graham, O. H. Tait, M. M. Anderson, and H. J. Colvin. Of 1462 candidates for the matriculation examination, 516 were recorded as . having passed the whole examination, 101 as having completed partial passes, and 100 as having gained partial passes. 01 the remaining candidates, 17 were absent, 56 failed to complete partial .passes, and 672 (who had entered for the whole examination) failed to pass.
