TARURUTANGI v. THE WORLD. Not the least interesting feature of the fete in aid of the Belgian and Pooi in Britain Funds on Mr. A. Street's property at Tarurutangi yesterday was the cricket match in which Tarurutangi played ''The World." The "world" entered a hot team, and as it comprised such notable cricketers as Bain, Weston, and F. H. Moore, all of whom have represented either North or South Taranaki, as well as C. Fairbrother and L. B. Webster, it is not to be wondered at that Tarurutangi had its colors lowered, but only after a good contest. Of the first six wickets for the World, only Bain (30) and Moore (12) could do anything with the bowling of C. Hamblyn and Street, and six wickets were down for 54; but Duckworth (20) and T. Simpson (10) helped to raise the score to !)0. J. Giddy kept stumps well, and only allowed six byes past him. The local team started badly, and lost five v.""ckets for but a few runs. C. Hamblyn (13) and H. Copestake then made a fine stand, gamely tackling the bowling. Numerous changes were tried. After Hamblyn's departure F. Bishop a?<sted Copestake to score his 24, and when lie retired after a well-played I'li the score totalled 91. H. Copestake played a fine innings, and was unbeaten at 24. C. R. Fairbrother captained the World, and P. Street the local team. Detailed scores:—
