TARANAKI TOURNAMENT. THIRD DAY'S PLAY. i The weather for the third day of the ( Taranaki Tournament was absolutely perfect, and some keen contests took place. At the finish of the sectional games, inter-sectional play took place lasting till after 7 p.m. Play on the whole v.-its good, but at times there was room for more consistency. In the match between A. K. .Smart and Abbott the board showed that at the twelfth head Smart had only scored once, a three, while his opponent had 12 up, but thereafter he had it all his own way, the score being level at 13 all and again at l(i all, and then Smart kept ahead to the close. llealc's defeat by S ,therland was somewhat of a surprise, but the victory was well deserved, Sutherland at one head scoring Ave. Play in the other inter-sectional games was fairly even. During the afternoon the town green presented a very animated appearance, there being a number of ladies present, besides male visitors.
